Três Ranchos , 2014-2019

The small municipality of Três Ranchos, located in the far southwest of the state of Goiás, has an uncertain origin, with its first recorded mention dating back to 1874, referring to a farm of the same name. Once in Três Ranchos, when it was not yet a city or even a district, a certain Mr. Geraldo Elói, one of the first residents of the town, recounted that his grandfather had asked a rider to go to the nearest city in search of information about the day, month, and year in which he and his fellow citizens were living.
The arrival of “progress” brought a new relationship with time, while simultaneously breaking with other fundamental elements of city life: rivers, trains, and music.Looking primarily at these elements and listening to the inhabitants of Três Ranchos, I gather and transform the material created and collected over many years, I create what I call a ‘Romance-Folhetim’ (Serial Novel), in which I explore the seasons and their subtle boundaries based on memories of a place that emerges timeless. The files collected and created over the years are organized, overlaid, and worked on with a poetic dimension, without the concern of presenting a truth-anchored story but rather to evoke the memories of the territory and its inhabitants. Recalling the ancient relations, this journal doesn’t delimit  a specific date, the one that Mr. Elói’s grandfather’s rider is still out there, searching.
